As part of Grenlec’s commitment to Energising Our Nation, 2016 marked a year of increased renewable energy, advancements in new technologies, and lower electricity prices for greater customer savings.
 

Decrease in Electricity Prices
FUEL CHARGES
Decrease in fuel charge price of 10 cents per unit/kWh in 2016 vs. 2015

With the decline of world fuel prices over the last two years, Grenlec continues to pass these savings on to customers.
Non-FUEL CHARGES
Decrease in non-fuel charge from $0.41 in 2015 to $0.40
in 2016


The non-fuel charge has decreased 33.3% since 1994 when adjusted for inflation.
 
Increasing Renewable Energy
11 solar PV installations completed with 937 kW of capacity – largest renewable energy investment in Grenada. 7.5% of peak demand 2.16 MW (company & customer generated) – enough to power 1,280 homes for a year and offsetting 1,480 metric tons carbon dioxide (CO2) annually.
 
Advancing New Technologies
ELECTRIC VEHICLES
Avg. 97 miles per MPGe (gal. of gas equivalent). Combined 39% reduction in fuel costs of the 3 EVs from October 2015 - December 2016. (Savings based on combined mileage of 22,906)

LED STREETLIGHTS
(274 installed in 2016)

LEDs helps reduce electricity costs by up to 50%.
